Do you have a dry mouth when you wake in the morning? Do you snore? These issues are often linked, and you wife or husband may well listen to you for much of the night. Lack of sleep can be an issue for both snorers and partners, but a simple device called a snoring chin strap may assist.
Is there a Solution?
There are a range of devices that can alleviate with snoring conditions. An Anti Snoring Device is worn in the mouth to keep the airway free of obstruction, and check the vibration of soft tissues which will cause snoring. Another helpful gadget, which is far less invasive but may well alleviate your snoring is the Snoring Chin Strap. This is a very simple device which is worn over the head, with a cradle that goes under the jaw and holds the mouth closed during the night. Now, if you have a blocked nose or structural problem, you need to get that resolved, and a sleep apnea mouthpiece may well serve you better. But for a lot of people, mouth breathing has become a habit, and the chin strap for snoring can immediately resolve this problem by making sure you breath through your nose at nighttime.
Yes, the snoring chin strap looks a little unusual when worn, but the benefits far outweigh that minor disadvantage. You getting a good nights sleep without being constantly kicked is a real benefit. Your companion will be thankful for it too.
Using snoring chin straps can in fact offer extra benefits that just a snoring cure. It is possible that you may have Sleep Apnea which is a more serious condition in which ‘episodes’ of breath holding take place whilst asleep, the sleeper typically stops breathing for ten seconds or more. This problem can cause some more serious health concerns, and if you are concerned about it, you really should call your physician and consider having a sleep investigation to verify the condition. The upside is that in some cases, it can be a learned condition which may be able to be fixed. There are also sleep apnea mouthpiece devices which can help.
The brilliant advantage of chin straps for snoring is that they teach you (although you are asleep) to inhale through your nose. Mouth breathers tend to get a narrowing of the airway, which causes the soft mouth and throat tissues to vibrate, creating a snore. The snoring chin strap will keep the mouth closed and the jaw in a position that assists in keeping that airway open.
If you wear the ‘stop snoring chin strap’ for a while, consider trying the odd night without it to see if you have automatically learnt to breath through your nose at night. A partner will be able to advise you. If not, keep using it and the time will come when it is no longer needed. I found it only took me a few weeks before I was converted from a mouth breather to a nose breather, and more significantly, from a snorer to a non-snorer.
