If you are like me, you are watching your travel budget carefully, asking where you can go that’s interesting but affordable. Here’s an idea, how about a SoCal vacation? There you will find theme parks, beaches, great weather and a lot more.
Another possibility would be Hawaii. Although those warm beaches are hard to resist, there’s not as much variety in vacation options as California. In Southern California you don’t need to worry as much about underwater rocks; also, the humidity is generally lower and the sunshine less intimidating. The water temperature is higher in the Aloha state, but in the middle of summer, the cooler water can be more refreshing.
Of course, the vegetation in Hawaii is often magnificent and the local culture adds much to the experience. But don’t forget the melting pot of many different cultures to be experienced in California, as well as the mountains, desert and coastline.
The beaches are just one of many attractions to be enjoyed in Southern California. You could spend a week checking out the seven top-notch theme parks between San Diego and Los Angeles County. You will find world-class thrill rides at Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain; the Six Flags roller coasters are particularly plentiful. Both offer many coasters and other fun rides. In fact, they offer more thrill rides than Disneyland, although the Magic Kingdom does include some fast attractions such as the Matterhorn and Space Mountain.
There aren’t many roller coasters to be found in Hawaii, unless you consider wintertime surfing to qualify in that category. California is probably a more budget-friendly summer travel option, but now and then you really do need to get over to Hawaii.
