There have been lots of reports in the media in recent time claiming the benefits of barefoot running and they often carry reports from the Lieberman study that appeared in Nature magazine as supporting barefoot running. The authors of this study have taken the extraordinary and unprecedented step of publishing a disclaimer on their site to distance themselves from the media and barefoot running community’s interpretation of the research. It did not show barefoot running is better, all it showed was that barefoot running is different to running in shoes. That is all it showed. Yet, there are amazing claims on barefoot running websites and in the media about what the study showed. Not one study has yet shown that running in shoes or running barefoot is better that the other. For some reason the barefoot running community seem to think there is. No one has been able to find these studies that the barefoot runners claim show this. The debates are also happening in France on barefoot running.
