Achilles tendonitis is a common problem in running. It is generally caused by a combination of overuse; tight calf muscles; worn running shoes; and poor foot biomechanics.

The main treatments for Achilles tendonitis are activity modification; ice and medicination to reduce swelling; a heel raise;  Achilles tendonitis foot orthotics are often needed to alter foot biomechanics. Running shoes will need to be looked at. This is follwed by a gradual return to full running mileage.
